Lin-Manuel Miranda hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL), and his debut was popular among frequent viewers of the show. The actor is one of the most famous celebrities in Broadway and is becoming rapidly a celebrity outside of it.
Miranda, born in 1980, is an American actor and rapper known for his work in Broadway musicals and shows. Hamilton and In the Heights are among his popular titles. He has won several awards, including two Grammys, an Emmy, and a Pulitzer Prize.
The actor has been part of some TV shows like The Sopranos, House, Modern Family, and How I Met Your Mother, where he has mostly represented Latino characters. He has been featured in some talk shows like Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Inside Amy Schumer.
An interesting fact about his work as compositor that most people ignore is that he created the “Jabba Flow” single for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. To some people, Miranda is a history-making artist in contemporary America and an interview published by Fast Company Magazine proved that he is indeed building an artistic brand for the ages.
To most critics and viewers, the performance of Miranda in SNL was almost perfect. Entertainment Weekly considered him one of the best hosts of SNL.
“Miranda spent the episode showcasing his once-in-a-generation talent in ways that were impossible to mistake. Miranda brought his A-game to the show and raised the level of everyone else’s performance in the process”, stated Rosalind O’Connor, a major entertainment journalist from the NBC.
His opening monolog was mostly with rap style and he mocked about himself and how probably most Americans did not know who he was. Miranda’s performance was applauded by most people, who shared their excitement in social networks.
A sketch about Stranger Things was also famous in the SNL episode, and the presentation of Twenty One Pilots made the episode with more current musical content.
Miranda described the Broadway piece as a show about two famous New York politicians locked in a dirty, ugly political campaign. The public received Hamilton with a stunning approval.
The musical uses hip-hop in its composition and shows America’s first Treasury story.
Hamilton may be an escape to the today’s craziness, said Miranda, but the fact is that the political thriller in the story certainly reflects some of the political tension in the country.
The current running time of Hamilton is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and a National Tour is planned for 2017, starting in San Francisco and Los Angeles. The show is appropriate even for children over ten years old, but the plot and strong language is aimed at an older audience.
The Tony-Award-winner show almost broke the record number of awards in the Musical category. Choreography, orchestrations, musical direction, lighting design, costume design and featured actor and actress also won Tonys.
While picking up his Tony Award, Miranda decided to share a sonnet he prepared instead of doing freestyle on the stage.
My wife’s the reason anything gets done
She nudges me towards promise by degrees
She is a perfect symphony of one
Our son is her most beautiful reprise.
We chase the melodies that seem to find us
Until they’re finished songs and start to play
When senseless acts of tragedy remind us
That nothing here is promised, not one day.
This show is proof that history remembers
We lived through times when hate and fear seemed stronger;
We rise and fall and light from dying embers, remembrances that hope and love last longer
And love is love is love is love is love is love is love is love cannot be killed or swept aside.
I sing Vanessa’s symphony, Eliza tells her story
Now fill the world with music, love and pride.
