London – Wimbledon started today at 10:30 a.m. on the main show courts. The defending champion Novak Djokovic won all of his sets. Venus William and Madison Key won their match and Raonic wins the second set.

During the first round of Wimbledon, at the center court, Novak Djokovic, world’s number one and defending champion, won against Briton James Ward 6-0 7-6 6-4. The Serbian has already won the Australian and French Open titles, seeking a calendar Grand Slam. Djokovic is searching for his fourth Wimbledon title.

Regarding the match against the English James Ward, Djokovic told BBC Sports that is was not ease to break James serve because of his precision.

Venus Williams, who is the oldest player in the women’s singles, draw, won against the teenager Donna Vekic 7-6 (3) 6-4.

And from the women’s ninth seed, Madison Keys beat Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-3 6-1.

The American Victoria Duval was defeated by the Russian Daria Kasatkina, who took only 51 minutes to win the first match of the championship. The results were 6-0 7-5.

Also in the center court, Italian Camila Giorgi and Garbine Muguruza, from Spain, competed. Muguruza, French open champion, won the first set 6-2 against Giorgi by 03:20 pm.

Canadian Milos Raonic leads the match against Pablo Carreno

Milos Raonic leads the match against Spanish Pablo Carreno 7-6(4) 6-2 in the first round. Raonic is ranked No 7 and Carreno No. 45.

The Canadian tennis player was rated by London bookmakers as the 4th favorite in Wimbledon, behind Novak Djokovic, Murray, and Federer.

As part of Raonic’s team, John McEnroe and Carlos Moya have joined Raonic as his coaches and consultants. Both McEnroe and Moya are former World No1 players, and they are an important part of Raonic’s plan to improve his performance in this year Wimbledon.

Milos accomplished great things in the 2014 Wimbledon, but last year, due to a foot surgery for a nerve issue, the Canadian was not a completely fit for the championship and lost against the Australian Nick Kyrgios in the third round.

But Raonic seems confident and better prepared for the 2016 championship. The tennis player said to the Players’ Tribune that he considers himself the most underrated player in the game

Wimbledon

This tennis championship is the oldest tennis tournament in the world. Founded in 1877, the Championships, Wimbledon is considered one of the most prestigious competitions in tennis. It is celebrated in London, England at the end of June and early July.

The tournament has three categories: Women, Men, and Mixed Doubles and each gender has single and double matches. The tennis championship ends with the Ladies and Gentlemen’s Singles Final, for the second Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Wimbledon is played at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and is the only major that is still played on grass.
