A 26-year-old woman was shot dead in a Milwaukee freeway after a child got a hold of a gun and fired.

Authorities arrived at Highway 175 southbound at 10:30 am local time, the unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the crime scene. The highway was shut down and the vehicle was found parked at a side of the street.

The age of the child in the back seat hasn’t been stated nor the relationship it had with the deceased woman.

“Initial witness accounts indicate that a child in the back seat of the vehicle got a hold of a gun and discharged the firearm, sending a single bullet into the driver’s back,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

Another witness has stated to NBC Station that while driving the other way, it appeared to be more than one child in the vehicle.

The investigation remains on-going and authorities are yet to comment on how the child got a hold of a gun.

Two months ago the news of a Florida woman shot in the back by a child appeared in the public eye.

Jamie Gilt is a Florida woman living with her 4-year-old child, that defends the second amendment and had previously public her love for firearms.

The 31-year-old mother was driving near a Putnam County road when the accident happened, Gilt survived the accident.

The controversy was found on the social media of the mother, where she states that her 4-year-old son “Gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22 gun.”

Jamie Gilt also runs a pro-gun Facebook page where she dedicates her love for the firearms.  After the accident, the Department of Children and Families is investigating the case.
