Kanye West mentioned Taylor Swift on a lyric from his new song called “Famous” in a listening party and fashion show where he also presented his Yeezy Season 3 collection last night.

The mention was not at all positive as he addressed that he was the reason the awarded singer was famous, referring to the VMA incident in 2009.

Some of the lyrics said “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous”. West defended his words on Friday in a series of Tweets saying that the term “bitch” was an endearing term in hip hop and that he called Swift and had an hour long conversation with her about the line. The rap singer also said that he did not insult Taylor and that he have never had, according to the tweets.

However, Tree Paine, Swift’s representative, said on behalf of the Bad Blood singer that Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release “Famous” on her Twitter account:

“She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric” said Paine to USA Today.

Many of Taylor’s friends and even her brother supported her on social media. Austin, Taylor’s younger brother, posted a video on Instagram where he threw his Kanye-designed Yeezy sneakers in the trash. Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss and Jaime King also addressed West’s Famous lyric and supported their squad member.

After the fury of many Taylor Swift’s fans, Kanye asked in his Twitter that people “stop trying to demonize real artist”. He said that he missed that “DMX” feeling and that was the reason he wanted to help restore it. West added that others wanted to control them with money and perception and mute the culture, but as he referred to his Thursday’s show at Madison Square Garden, the demonstrated they can not stop them.

The two singers linked each other’s careers in the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009, where Swift was interrupted by West during her acceptance speech for Best Female Artist of that year. Swift defeated Beyoncé in that category and West was not happy about it, he said that she did not deserve the award, that the Single Ladies singer did.
