At last, audiences will be able to see good friends Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg on VH1‘s Martha & Snoop’s Dinner Party.
Martha & Snoop’s Dinner Party will feature Emmy-winning rapper, producer, and comedian Snoop Dogg as he hosts a weekly dinner party, inviting celebrities to enjoy a “half-baked evening of cocktails, cooking, conversation and fun where nothing is off limits.” It will be the first major collaboration for home decor celebrity Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg after appearing on Justin Bieber’s roast. The series will be produced by Stewart, Snoop, Sequential Brands Group, and 495 Productions, who delivered the successful reality series Jersey Shore.
‘Baked’ dishes will probably be more frequent
Stewart has referred to the show as a mixup of America’s tradition of food, entertainment, creativity and celebrities, trying to take usual food TV shows for a spin by partnering up with one of the world’s most successful rappers.
“My homegirl, Martha, and I have a special bond that goes back. We’re gonna be cooking, drinking and having a good time with our exclusive friends. Can’t wait for you to see how we roll together!” Snoop Dogg stated.
While Snoop Dogg has faced charges of drug possession and even had to fight a charge of murder, 75-year-old Martha Stewart is by no means an angel. She was indicted for securities fraud after she received nonpublic information which allowed her to sell her shares of ImClone Systems, which led her to avoid a loss of $45,000. The trial was highly criticized, and Stewart was found guilty on charges of conspiracy, making false statements and obstruction of justice. The TV hostess had to serve five months in a correctional facility and two years of supervised release.
In a less-serious note, Stewart acknowledged that before going on stage for Justin Bieber’s roast, she had been alongside Snoop Dogg, who spent over four hours smoking. Stewart, at first believed that the rapper was smoking cigars, but after several minutes she began to giggle and”started to feel a little woozy,” to which she shockingly realized that Snoop Dogg was smoking pot. At the roast, comedian Natasha Leggero stated: “All these rappers on stage and Martha Stewart has done the most jail time.” Bieber himself had requested that Stewart attended the roast.
VH1 president Chris McCarthy referred to Martha & Snoop’s Dinner Party as an exciting opportunity to create fun dinner parties with unexpected guests and several surprises. Apparently, the project comes as part of McCarthy’s vision of the future of entertainment, as he earned the position of VH1 and Logo president back in 2014.
McCarthy managed to “reinvent the VH1 brand, bringing the focus back to its rich pop culture heritage,” as stated by Viacom President Doug Herzog. Herzog referred to McCarty’s capacity for strategy and for taking into consideration what the audience wants to see before pleasing executives, which has led to a constant growth in audiences, achieving outstanding results for the company.
