Jaybird introduced the new Freedom Wireless Bluetooth Buds on Monday. The fifth generation earphones are capable of delivering eight hours of music and include a fast-charging feature. They can be acquired for $199.95 on Best Buy and jaybirdsport.com.

The new Freedom earphones are built in metal, which helps to remove sound distortion without affecting the Bluetooth signal, said Jaybird. They are secure fit and sweat-proof like previous generations, but offer a 20-percent smaller size.

The Utah-based company owned by Logitech is exclusively dedicated to developing wireless technology. Jaybird has added a new “on-the-go” charging feature to the Freedom earbuds. It gives an extra hour of play time, for a 20-minutes-charge, when connected to a battery clip.

Judd Armstrong, founder and CEO of Jaybird, said the new design fits all ears. The box includes three sizes of ear cushions. The company said the “miniaturized low profile design” fits under helmets, which would attract users who practice wheeled sports.

“This latest generation of Freedom liberates our lives like never before. These micro-sized tapered earbuds deliver our best-ever sound while featuring a reduced size that fits all ears, all in a low-profile fit that resonates with everyone,” said Armstrong in a press release issued Monday.

Jaybird’s new app

The Utah-based company owned by Logitech has created a new app called Mysound. It allows users to customize sound settings and save them to their Freedom buds. They can be connected to two devices at the same time, such as a laptop and a smartphone.

Mysound can synchronizes one device with two different earbuds. This feature would be appreciated by people who workout together and want to listen to the same tracks. Users can also synchronize their music to their Apple Watch, pair their Freedom earbuds and leave their phone at home, said the company.

“The over-ear fit and elegant metal accents of Freedom bring a fashionable element while being more rugged than ever, offering the freedom to bring your music anywhere, from mountain to motorcycle, thanks to the buds’ helmet friendly breakthrough form.” said Armstrong.

Pricing and availability

The Jaybird Freedom can be exclusively acquired on Best Buy stores, Bestbuy.com and jaybirdsport.com for $199.95. They come in four different colors: Gold, Carbon (Black), Blaze (Red) and Ocean (Blue). More retailers will add the new Jaybird’s earbuds to their catalogue over the summer, said the company.

In the future, all earphones may be wireless: Apple would lead the change

Rumors seem to suggest that Apple is planning to eliminate the 3.5mm headphone jack on the new iPhone 7. According to Macrumors, the tech giant would present new headphones that use a lightning connection instead.

Analysts also propose that Apple would introduce new wireless earbuds with noise-cancelling technology and built-in support for Siri. They would be “all-wireless” which means that the right and left earbud would be independent of each other.

In 2014, the company purchased Dr. Dre’s Beats, for $3 billion. The new all-wireless earbuds would be jointly designed with Beats engineers, and would be sold separately from the iPhone.
