The fan-voted CMT Music Awards air today at 8/7c. Make sure to be in the know about what to expect on the greatest country music gala of the year! The awards are being held in Nashville, Tennessee.
One of the most anticipated appearances is Pharrell Williams, who will surely get his healthy dosage of country music as tonight’s events unfold. He is the producer of “Wanderlust,” Little Big Town’s new album which won them a Grammy. It is to be released this Friday, so be on the look for the awards because Little Big Town will surely make itself present throughout the night.
Beyonce also took an unexpected turn and released a country song on her latest album. Some speculate that she is following Justin Timberlake’s steps, who managed to score a hit with “Drink You Away,” featured on his latest album “The 20/20 Hindsight.”
Among the other artists that will appear at the CMT Music Awards, there’s Carrie Underwood, who has won “Video of the Year” at the gala six times in the past, winning it for the first time in 2012. She is nominated thanks to one of her latest singles “Smoke Break.”
Billy Ray Cyrus, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Maren Morris, Blake Shelton, Florida Georgia Line will also be part of the roster. Cheap Trick, Pitbull, Elle King and Leona Lewis will be collaborating with some of the artists to deliver an astounding show.
CMT’s hosting couple
One of the most anticipated appearances is said to be Texans star J.J. Watt, who will co-host the CMT Music Awards along Erin Andrews. Watt has been able to gather a rather significant social following due to his recent commercials and social media presence. Erin Andrews is known for being the host of “Dancing with the Stars” and one of Fox’s leading sports reporters.
Watt already served as the CMT Awards host last year. According to him, he “got a first-hand look at the energy and excitement of the event,” which is why he did not think twice when asked to co-host along Erin Andrews. Little by little, J.J. Watt has worked on his career as an entertainer, as he appeared along Zooey Deschanel in “New Girl.”
But Watts is far from lacking in his sports career. He was the 11th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, becoming one of the most aggressive players in the NFL, earning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award three times. He is also the second player with the most career sacks in the league’s history. Watt is also a philanthropist, as he founded the Justin J. Watt Foundation while he was in college, an organization aiming to help children achieve their athletic and academic goals.
Voting for the CMT Awards ended last Monday. The CMT Music Awards is regarded as the “loudest in country music.” It has been able to garner almost 17 million cumulative views on its premiere and periodical airings. The awards are expected to have an added a third of the previous year’s audience.
