Activision will join forces with Sony to launch a new Ghostbusters video game for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC, featuring RPG gameplay and the possibility of choosing your character’s genre.

Players will take control of new and different “male and female rookies” as the story takes place way past the events of the new movie. The players will not be able to interact with the older cast of the Ghostbusters franchise nor the new cast, as the corresponding character’s “are off stopping high-profile poltergeists.”

Who you gonna call?

The new game aims to set a new standard for Ghostbusters’ games, as they have been popular since the release of Ghostbusters for the NES and subsequent video game consoles. The newest addition to the series is said to include “asynchronous co-op,” which will supposedly allow up to four different players to upgrade their equipment, character traits and even customize the Ghosbusters’ base of operations. There are many collectibles to find and objectives to achieve in order to raise your characters to the highest level. It is also stated that there will be online leaderboards and special PvP events where teams of players will face each other.

A video trailer displays the appearance of Ghostbuster series’ mascot “Slimer,” and one is able to witness the graphics and little cuts of gameplay. The game resembles the Diablo series’ perspective, as it gathers third-person RTS view and cooperative gameplay. Perhaps the game will feature different venues or dungeons where players will join forces with each other in order to cleanse the location of any possible ghost, spectre, or abnormal entity that may be haunting about.

The previous Ghostbusters game had a different approach, as it was a third-person shooter developed by Terminal Reality, a game company that now lies inactive. Although the previous game was released on PC, Xbox, DS, Wii, PS2, PS3 and PSP by Atari, it didn’t fulfill expectations in spite of the fact that gamers actually liked the game and it is currently an underestimated hidden jewel.

There are also plans to release a mobile version of the game under the title of Ghostbusters: Slime City, but Activision did not want to display overt more features of the game.

The game’s release date coincides with the premiere date of the new Ghostbusters movie, which features an all-female cast, starred by Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.
