Lexi is an app available only for iOS users that allows users to communicate with Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant directly through their handsets. Users can get Lexi without the need for Amazon Echo, Triby or other third-party devices, but it might require an Amazon account in order to sync with it.

Lexi is actually on the Apple App Store priced for $5. Which is a lot cheaper if compared to Amazon’s Echo priced at $180. Also, Lexi can have actually the same functionality as Alexa, which means it can let you place orders, remotely controlling your smart home devices as well as install and turn skills from the Alexa App, and also do other general stuff like ask about the weather and movie listings.

Alexa and Lexi might get along

There are no issues between these two apps, since Lexi also allows users to ask Alexa for information about the latest news, weather, movies or directions to the closest hospital, among several other things.

However, since Lexi is recently released, it doesn’t support integration with Alexa’s music or book services. It means that consumers who are interested in streaming media from Amazon Prime Music will have to purchase the Echo.

What’s Echo?

Amazon Echo is a hands-free speaker that is controlled with the voice. Echo connects to the Alexa Voice Service to play music, provide information, news, sports scores, weather, and more instantly.

Echo contain seven microphones and beam forming technology so it can hear you from across the room, even while music is playing, no matter how loud. Echo is also an expertly tuned speaker that can fill any room with 360° immersive sound. When someone wants to use Echo, it just has to say the wake word “Alexa” and Echo will respond instantly.

Amazon Echo and its virtual personal assistant Alexa may have a lot to offer – and has been quite successful so far too – but the target market has not been fully exploited. Amazon actually needs to invest more time and resources towards these products. Even though it already seems to be doing exactly that, it’s not enough to prevent its target audience from considering a cheaper alternatives. Apple took advantage and released a really cheap alternative.
