Xbox One X will be more expensive although more powerful than the PS4 Pro

The Xbox One X’s cost is set at $500 while the Playstation 4 Pro is $100 cheaper. The same occurred with the Xbox One and the PS4 on release, which ended up hurting sales for Microsoft.

Xbox executives assure that the Xbox One X is better, marketed as a gaming PC on its own and called a “wonderful premium device” when it comes to graphics, RAM, and sound capacity. The Xbox One X is expected to launch on November 3, just in time for holiday season.

“But comparison wise, I don’t think that combination of price, performance, and form factor is rivalled in the market at all,” stated Dave McCarthy from Microsoft. Image credit: Microsoft.

How the Xbox One X weighs against the PS4 Pro

Apparently, what initially leaked as “Project Scorpio” became the Xbox One X, as it was revealed in this year’s E3 conference.

Players looking to get the newest console will have to weight between getting an Xbox One X against a Playstation 4 Pro, and both seem to be the same as their predecessors, only that with increased technical capabilities. Both consoles are meant to offer the best experience in 4K-resolution gaming and streaming.

Differences in hardware

The Xbox One X will be Microsoft’s slimmest console, but not the lightest with its 8.4 pounds of hardware. It will have both HDMI-in and out ports, which the PS4 Pro does not have, as it features its default HDMI-out port. In short, the Xbox One X will allow the player to stream TV and any media that can pass through an HDMI port toward a master HDMI signal receiver.

When it comes to performance, the Xbox One appears to be the clear winner, as it features a 2.3 GHz CPU, 6 teraflops of computing power, 12GB RAM, and ability to play games at 60 FPS. The PS4 Pro has a 2.1 GHz CPU, 4.2 teraflops, 8GB RAM, and non-consistent frame rates.

Despite these advantages, the PS4 has an easy win when it comes to VR, mainly because the Xbox One X does not support it yet. It is unknown whether Microsoft will offer VR compatibility of some sort, as it will need to either launch its own headset or make the Xbox One X compatible with a 3rd party product. PCs already support VR, so one could expect that the feature will be launched in the near future.

Game repertoire and backward compatibility

Now, the most important feature that any gaming console can offer is its game repertoire. Luckily, many important games will be launched for both consoles alike.

One of them is Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Origins, which will come in different editions, ranging from $50 up to a whopping $120. The game is set in ancient Egypt, proposed as a complete revamp of the series. It will focus in an open world environment whose effects in the story may be altered by whatever actions the player takes.

The player will take control of Bayek, an Egyptian officer that will play a crucial role in the foundation of the Assassin Brotherhood. Bayek will level up as the game progresses, gaining new RPG-inspired abilities.

There’s also BioWare, the creators of Mass Effect, which is dearly loved by its fans despite the third title’s awful ending. The company will now launch Anthem, a completely new sci-fi action game, also set in an open world environment.

In Anthem, the player will decide the actions of a Freelancer, who’s set out to explore distant planets and help humanity withstand the dangers of outer space. The game focuses on cooperative gameplay; up to four players will team up to complete missions and help each other.

For Xbox only, players will get a revamped Minecraft, alongside a few surprises. Apparently, Minecraft will now support multi-console gameplay, allowing mobile, VR, Switch, and Xbox One X players to meet each other in the block-based universe. Nevertheless, this version will be different from the PC version, which will be then known as “Minecraft: Java Edition,” the only one to support mods from the gaming community.

“So going forward, the edition you’ll find on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, mobile, and VR will simply be known as ‘Minecraft,’ a separate entity from ‘Minecraft: Java Edition,’ which is the original PC game (that we’ll continue to support, of course). This means when you buy ‘Minecraft,’ you’re buying a game that can you can play with friends across devices,” stated Mojang.

Minecraft will also now support 4K resolution and improved graphics. Larger worlds, improved shadows and lighting will be just some of the new features available to Minecraft players on the “Super Duper Graphics Pack,” as it was referred to at the E3.

Last but not least, the Xbox One X has a card hidden in its sleeve that has been a controversial point since the release of the Xbox 360. The Xbox One X will feature backwards compatibility with original Xbox discs, and compatibility with the 360 is expected to be implemented at some point during development.
