Why You May be Waking Up Exhausted

There are many reasons that you may be waking up exhausted and many conditions cause poor quality sleep. If you are waking up each morning and still do not feel rested, it may be that you have an underlying condition that is affecting your sleep. Below are some of the most common causes of fatigue despite getting enough sleep.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea can be a dangerous condition and if you snore, it may be worth getting tested for this condition. When you have sleep apnea, you will have moments where your body stops breathing altogether whilst you are asleep. This can leave you waking up many times throughout the night and will leave you feeling exhausted the next day, even if you do not remember waking. If you do snore, this quick fix can stop you from snoring and may help you get better sleep overall.

Anemia

One of the most common reasons that people still feel exhausted despite sleeping is anemia. This is determined as a low level of iron in the blood and is referred to as iron deficiency anemia. If you have very heavy periods, you may be more prone to anemia. As the iron levels within the body are low, your body will feel constantly exhausted, from the minute you wake up to the moment you go to bed.

Depression and Anxiety

There is no health without mental health and this can be said for sleep problems too. Depression is a leading cause of exhaustion and when you are depressed, it can feel like no amount of sleep is enough and getting up in the morning can be a serious struggle. Both depression and anxiety can leave you feeling drained and can also affect how much you do sleep at night. If anxiety is affecting your everyday life and leaving you irritable and tired, speak to a doctor. Whilst anxiety sometimes is normal, anxiety should not be affecting your daily life and constantly causing sleep issues.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome, also referred to as ME, is fatigue that lasts for over four months. Whilst it is difficult to diagnose, and it is known as an invisible illness, those suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome know the pain all too well. You may find yourself with other symptoms when suffering from this condition, such as joint or muscle pain.

Diabetes

One of the main symptoms associated with diabetes is feeling exhausted. No matter how much sleep you get, it may be that you are still tired as your blood sugar levels are abnormal. Other key symptoms of diabetes include a frequent need to urinate and feelings of extreme thirst. If this is the case, go to your doctor and get your blood sugar levels checked.

Your Sleeping Pattern is Poor

It may be that you are not suffering from any condition or problem and you are waking up exhausted each morning because of a poor sleeping pattern. Sleeping at the same time each night can reduce the risk of feeling exhausted in the morning and lead to a better quality of sleep. This means no distractions before bed and limiting phone time. Sleeping and waking at the same time can also help in preventing exhaustion, but for some who work shifts, this may not be possible. If you do night shifts, ensure when you sleep during the day you make the room as dark as possible to recreate night time.

There are many reasons that you could be waking up exhausted, so determining a cause can aid you in treating the issue at hand.
