Is Tesla Motors releasing a free Autopilot trial?

Tesla Motors is set to continue impressing its customers, as it could release a feature called Autopilot, yet with additional costs included. Features such as active cruise control and automatic highway steering could become an add-on element for Tesla’s car models soon.

According to Jalopnik, Tesla had already installed its Autopilot hardware in their vehicles ever since it rolled out the new models back in 2014. However, customers who don’t want to use the hardware can save around $3000, which is the cost for updating the car model to include the new feature called Autopilot Convenience Feature package. What’s more, Tesla Motors has played an interesting move given that every car manufactured since October 2014 has the capacity to be remotely updated to introduce the Autopilot hardware suite.

The reason for this is advertising, as it allows the hybrid car company to offer free trials for people to get hooked into the feature and eventually purchase it. Any driver of vehicles made by Tesla Motors since 2014 can update the software that would active its already installed hardware after testing it for free.

Smartly enough for the automaker company led by Elon Musk, it now offers a 1-month free trial for the Autopilot feature. Even though this offer has not been 100 percent confirmed, as of yet, Electrek was able to find an image of the Autopilot trial’s message on the screen of Tesla’s Model S car. According to the report published by Electrek on Sunday, the trial for the Autopilot Convenience Features package will be available soon.

Even though the package includes many useful and innovative features such as automatic parallel parking with Tesla’s Summon update, $3000 may be a steep price. However, Tesla is playing the release of the feature just right, as a free trial would increase the amount of drivers who would go for the new update.

By giving its customers the chance to try Tesla’s Autopilot Convenience Features package for an entire month, people who use it will hardly let go of the update. And considering the investment for the new update is about 5 percent of the total cost of the vehicle, it’s safe to assume that sales for the new hardware will suffice the company’s expectations.

It’s a must for those people who don’t plan on getting the update to at least try it while they can. And this is exactly what Tesla Motors could be after, as curiosity might bring potential customers to concede and end up buying the latest update. Still, it remains to be seen if Tesla Motors will actually release this promotion, and how drivers are going to react to it.
