Taylor Swift’s big night at the 2016 Grammy Awards

Pop star Taylor Swift had a great night that will remain in the audience’s memory. Not only did she fiercely commit to open the Grammy Awards with an outstanding performance, but she also earned three trophies and became the first female artist to win Album of the Year twice. Her second acceptance speech also left the audience in awe.

Swift took home Best Pop Vocal Album (1989), Album of the Year (1989) and Best Music Video (Bad Blood feat. Kendrick Lamar).

Her boyfriend Calvin Harris could not be with her at the ceremony but he did join her for the afterparty. The music producer took on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to congratulate her and shared a photo of Taylor on stage accepting one of her awards.

Taylor’s speech on girl power

Probably the biggest moment the singer had at the Grammys was when she took the stage to accept her Album of the Year award. As the first woman to earn that trophy twice, she gave a fierce but sweet speech about girl power as a response to Kanye West’s recent attacks.

In his song “Famous”, he raps “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/Why? I made that bitch famous”. During the days before the Grammys, fans found themselves in the middle of a debate on whether she should react or ignore Kanye West’s misogynous actions against the pop star.

Well, she did react but in such an elegant and human manner that she didn’t even have to say the rapper’s name or quote his song. Instead, she chose not to present herself as a victim and focused on an issue bigger than herself: inequality for women.

Taylor started by directing her message to young women, warning them that they might one day be attacked by people who will try to sabotage their success or take credit for what they have accomplished.

“But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get where you are going, you will look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you for this moment” – the Grammy-winner expressed, as reported by E! Online.

She took control of the situation and didn’t let anyone else’s actions negatively impact her image. But the most important thing is that Taylor expressed that she cares about other women around the world who might be constantly attacked by weak people who need any form of violence against others to feel stronger. Sadly, that’s their definition of power.
