Rep. Karen Bass on Twitter: Trump needs a psychological evaluation

On August 3 Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.) said on Twitter that Republican candidate Donald Trump needs to be psychologically evaluated and urged medical professionals to ask for a mental fitness test for the candidate.

Congresswoman Bass highlighted that Trumps has all the symptoms that clinical narcissist have, and she posted each of them on Twitter with a Trump’s quote to prove it. SheBass started a petition on Change.org to have an official health status of the presidential candidate because a person who is going to rule the most powerful nations must be mentally healthy. According to Karen Bass, and others, Trump’s behavior is not fit to be America’s president.

The petition says that Trump is dangerous to the United States because he has shown he is impulsive and lacks control over his emotions. Bass states that it is a patriotic duty to questioned Trump’s mental stability, because who could be the person commanding America and the leader of the free world.

“Trump appears to exhibit all the symptoms of the mental disorder Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).”

The petition demands an official mental health status before the polls on November 8th, 2016. There hashtag used for the request is #DiagnoseTrump.

Rep. Bass is making a public call for an official examination because The American Psychiatrist Association has declared that commenting on Trump’s behavior without officially seeing him as a patient would be unethical.

Bass is not the first person to question Donald Trump’s mental state. Journalists and commentators have also wonder if he is mentally capable of running the country if he gets to win the presidential elections. Some of them have called him narcissists and a sociopath, but Bass is the first lawmaker that accused him based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), which she claims is the bible for psychiatrists. The Manual represents the most definitive compilation of mental disorders followed by the mental health authorities in America, says the Huffington Post.

Describing the Narcissistic Personality Disorder: it fits Trump’s behavior during his campaign

The narcissist personality disorder is defined as a group of harmful traits and behaviors that include arrogance, compassionless, grandiosity, intolerance of the views of others, and envy. The condition is related to a need of power, prestige, and vanity and most concerning with and exploitive conduct to get what they want.

Pathological narcissism is also associated with exaggeration of skills, derogation, and insults to others.

All these traits seem to match Donald Trump’s public image during the presidential campaign, and Bass made sure to highlight it tweeting nine posts with nine symptoms that described narcissist in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

She tweeted that narcissist have a grandiose sense of self-importance and quoted Donald Trump saying: “I know what I’m doing, and I listen to people, but my primary consultant is myself.”

Bass continued and as the fifth trait, she said that narcissists have a sense of entitlement and unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment. This time, the Representative quoted Trump when he stated that he could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and still have the same number of voters.

Another tweet said narcissists often are envious of others or believes others are envious of them. The Congresswoman quoted Trump when he said that his IQ was one of the highest and people should not feel stupid or insecure because it is not their fault.

Trump could also be a sociopath, and he has proved it through his long campaign

Narcissism could not be all. The Huffington Post says that additionally, Trump could also be an antisocial (sociopath). The antisocial personality disorder includes the disregard and violation of the rights of other people and involves the fact of constantly trying to deceive others by repeating lies, aggressiveness, and irresponsibility.

To prove this, the Huffington Post numbered a series of facts regarding Donald Trump’s behavior; that happen to meet the characteristics of a sociopath pathology.

Trump is known for being and compulsive liar and according to PolitiFact, from all his statements, 72 percent were rated as false. The website Trumplies.com compiles of the false statements that the candidate has said until today. This behavior matches the symptom of “constantly trying to deceive others by repeating lies.”

And despite being criticized by hurtful things he has said, Trump has never apologized for his impulsive attacks towards Mexicans, Muslims, and women.

Donald Trump recently threatened protesters during primaries and the people criticizing him at the Democratic Convention. He said he wanted to hit them and that they should be carried on a stretcher. Which matches with the sociopath symptoms of aggressiveness, irresponsibility, and the violation of the rights of others.

But Rep. Bass has a strong point in asking for an official psychiatric evaluation, and that is the safety of America and the rest of the world.

If Donald Trump gets to be the President of the United States, he would have control of the FBI, the NSA, the CIA and other powerful federal agencies, adding the fact he would decide on America’s nuclear power. And the combination of this kind of authority and his erratic behavior would be a genuine danger not only for Americans but all people around the world.
