Pet owners will love ‘The Secret Life of Pets’

Now pet owners will finally know what their pets do when there is nobody home, after watching Universal Pictures’ The Secret Life of Pets, a movie that follows a similar premise to Toy Story.

The movie features Lake Bell as Chloe, Tara Strong as Sweet Pea, comedian Louis C.K. As Max and Bobby Moynihan as Mel. Comedian Kevin Hart also makes a voice acting appearance, along with Jenny Slate and Albert Brooks.

The film comes from the hand of Illumination Entertainment’s Chris Renaud and Brian Lynch, who have worked in Despicable Me and Minions respectively, one of the latest successful series in 3-D animation films that have managed to gather a major mainstream following.

Pets gone wild

Max, a Jack Russell Terrier, cannot imagine where his owner, Katie, goes when she heads to work every day. In response, Max spends time with the many neighboring pets while his owner is out doing whatever. Just like in Toy Story, Max’s routine as the leader of the pack and as his owner’s loved pet dog changes when Katie brings home Duke, an enormous Newfoundland, which now is competing with Max for the alpha dog position.

After a series of unfortunate events, they become separated from their dog walker and end up in a bunny’s secret society named Flushed Pets, which goes by their signature phrase: “Liberated forever, domesticated never.”

Snowball the bunny, voiced by Hart, notices that Max and Duke got “the scent of domestication” all over them, so he sends his army to seize them.

On the other side of town, Max’s animal friends notice their absence, to which Gidget, who has a crush on Max, leads them to go and find their friends.

The movie takes a refreshing approach to depicting the New York scenery and reminds viewers of the fascinating urban landscapes that make up the most modern cities. Louis C.K. is the ideal person for the lead, as he is one of the most successful contemporary comedians and comedy writers, native to New York City.

People have taken a liking for Hart’s role as the maniac rabbit known as Snowball. It is a deranged bunny with plans to rebel against the human race. Hart had attributed some inspiration to the rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where it seemed cute from a distance, but turned into a murderous beast when the knights approached it.

Moviegoers have liked the picture so far, especially those with pets. It appears that both children and adults alike are yearning for more of what The Secret Life of Pets has brought for them. This series may have a lot of potential, just like Toy Story, which took on the idea of toys visiting a toy store, daycare and more. Pets have a similar universe, where they sometimes have to visit the veterinary, compete in pet shows, take walks in the park alongside other pets, or, mostly in the case of cats, become internet superstars.

There’s no denial that The Secret Life of Pets takes some inspiration from Toy Story, but it is hard not to do so, since Pixar’s toy series has become one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, inspiring thousands of animators and film producers alike with each of its three installments.
