Man arrested for shooting random victims

Duxbury, Mapleton – Police has arrested a twenty-five-year old Maine man for apparently shooting two people ‘at random’, in Duxbury on Sunday morning. Both victims are being cared in the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, after suffering non-life threatening injuries, as reported by The Associated Press (AP).

Police suggests that Lucas McPherson of Mapleton shot at the two men from his car, at two different places. However, it appears as if there’s no link between the suspect and the victims. The first shooting occurred on Tremont Street near Duxbury Town Hall around 1:15 a.m.

When police officers were investigating the first shooting, they found a suspicious Chevy Impala in front of a home on Tobey Garden Street, where another man had been shot. The second victim reported he was walking around alongside his dog, when a men stopped in front of his home and shot him.

“At this point in the investigation, there’s no connection to either of these individuals. This appears to be a very, very sad but random crime spree.” Duxbury Police Chief Matthew Clancy told WBZ NewsRadio 1030, according to CBS Local.

Police subdued McPherson with an electrical gun and took him into custody, after the alleged shooter got out of the car, and attempted to attack an officer with a hunting knife, said CBS Local.

McPherson was also carrying a double-barrelled shotgun inside the Impala, which is believed to be the weapon used in the two random shootings. Mass. State Police detective are jointly working with the Duxbury Police in the case. The shooter will be arraigned on Monday and will see his day in court soon enough.
