United States President Barack Obama claimed on Tuesday that Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump is “unfit to serve” as the leader of the United States. Mr. Obama also said in a press conference that Trump is woefully unprepared to serve as president.
When asked about the Republican nominee during a press conference, President Obama said Trump cannot run the country. He added that it is time for top GOP leaders to reconsider their support for him. President Obama also asked top Republicans in Congress why they are still endorsing a person that is continually pronouncing speeches that are condemned by its own party leaders.
Donald Trump has proclaimed offensive comments about the family of a soldier killed in action in Iraq. These statements have caused the latest wave of rebukes from Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell and House Speaker, Paul Ryan.
Ryan and McConnel have steadily criticized Trump’s actions. The proposal of banning Muslims to enter to U.S. territory and his xenophobic attacks on Judge Gonzalo Curiel over his Mexican heritage have forced GOP leaders to distance themselves from the candidate.
During a speech at the Democratic National Convention Khizr Khan answered back over Trump’s comments claiming that he has never sacrificed anything and he plead audience to repudiate Trump.
President Obama argued it is a matter of reconsidering Trump’s frequent non-appropriate actions. He said there is a point when everybody needs to realize that Trump’s attacks do not project the judgment, temperament, and the responsibility needed to occupy the most powerful position in the world.
“The question I think that they have to ask themselves: If you are repeatedly having to say in very strong terms that what he has said is unacceptable, why are you still endorsing him? What does this say about your party that this is your standard-bearer?,” said President Obama addressing the rhetoric question to Ryan and McConnell.
Obama’s statements go further than policy disagreements
President Obama recalled his policy battles with Sen. John McCain and Mitt Romney back in 2008 and 2012. Despite their policy disagreements, Obama remarked he never thought both candidates couldn’t do the job because he was sure about their common sense and good judgment to apply norms and rules.
“I recognize that they all profoundly disagree with myself or Hillary Clinton on tax policy or on certain elements of foreign policy. But you know, there have been Republican presidents with whom I disagreed with, but I didn’t have a doubt that they could function as president,” Obama said.
Trump’s response
The Republican nominee did not remain passive towards Obama’s “unfit to serve” statements. Earlier on Tuesday Trump responded back with a statement accusing Obama and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton of destabilizing the Middle East.
According to Trump, Obama has failed as a leader, who along with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, created a foreign policy that has unbalanced the world and has made it an unsafe place. Trump claimed back that the one who is “unfit” to serve as a President is Mr. Obama.
Trump has accused Obama and Clinton of releasing “criminal aliens” into the country. The GOP presidential nominee also put the blame on Obama for sending jobs overseas and Clinton for putting the country at risk with her irresponsible use of a private email server.
The real estate mogul also claimed that Obama has been weak and ineffective because it seems he is not aware of the foreign policy he has implemented in the country. Trump also restated his concerns about November elections. He considers the process will be rigged and invited Republicans to be watchful.
