North Korean leader to be prosecuted by UN

In recent threats made by North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un, the city of Manhattan was the focus of alert as North Korea claimed it could burn the city down to ashes.

In response to the threats made to the city of Manhattan, the United Nations called on Monday for North Korea’s leader and senior officials to be prosecuted for committing crimes against humanity, according to Reuters.

As reported by the state’s television in the People’s Republic of North Korea, Pyongyang’s arsenal of deadly weaponry also includes a hydrogen bomb able to wipe out New York City. It was also reported on Monday that the hydrogen bomb is significantly bigger than the one developed previously by the Soviet Union, according to nuclear scientist Cho Hyong II.

“If this H-bomb were to be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile and fall on Manhattan in New York City, all the people there would be killed immediately and the city would burn down to ashes,” said Cho Hyong II in a report released by DPRK.

This poses a national threat for the United States as well as a worldwide threat considering that North Korea has drifted towards isolation and its leader believes everyone is an enemy.

A staged show of the country’s military power was filmed last week where leader Kim Jong-un seems to be looking over a silver sphere. The object appearing in the broadcast is believed to be a miniature nuclear warhead or the alleged hydrogen bomb.

At the moment, North Korea is focusing large amounts of resources to developing nuclear weapons, as well as other weapons of mass destruction, said Marzuki Darusman to the U.N Human Rights Council. While the country isn’t involved in any war or situation that could require such weaponry, is important to determine the reasons for North Korea’s nuclear interests.

Going through the motions

Although this is the latest of a long list of threats made by North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un, it’s important not to overlook the developments of the country’s nuclear power.

According to the United Nations Human Rights Council, Darusman also noted that North Korea citizens lack sufficient food while other work in slave-like conditions.

In previous events, North Korea launched a satellite into space with the objective of testing long-range missiles. The UN Security Council condemned the launch as it was viewed across the globe as a step forward in testing the reach of nuclear missiles. Despite all of this, North Korea conducted its fourth nuclear test in January and launched a long-range missile just a month after. Because North Korea acted while sanctions already imposed on the country were still legally binding, new sanctions were introduced making effective immediately.
