Microsoft launches its Signature Type Cover at Milan Design Week

Microsoft went Italian to launch the new Signature Type Cover, a luxury keyboard cover for your Microsoft Surface Pro tablet. The cover is able to fit both Surface Pro 4 and Pro 3, it sports an Alcantara styling and buyers report that it feels great to the touch.

The new Signature Type Cover costs $159,99 but a frequent complaint among reviewers is that the cover does not have a fingerprint scanner. There is already a Type Cover that possesses the fingerprint scanner, thus offering an increased sense of security. Both models cost the same, but it is for the buyer to decide if they want a better aesthetic or a better security in their Tablet PC.

The cover’s features

The main attraction of the Signature Type Cover is its Alcantara texture. It is frequently used in car interiors as a high-end textile, and it suits the Signature Type Cover wonderfully as this material gets darker over time and it doesn’t lose any of its softness.

The keyboard is specially designed so the user can type with ease and precision. There is enough space between each key so the user doesn’t feel constrained while typing. The cover also has a glass trackpad that is very precise to the touch.

It is very light. It weighs only 285 grams, a little more than half a pound. It includes the full standard Windows keyboard layout, including media controls, screen brightness buttons, and a right click button. It can be bought directly from Microsoft stores through their website.

The Signature Type Cover allows users to easily replace their PC’s with a Windows Surface Pro, as the case and keyboard pretty much transform your tablet into a portable Windows computer. Microsoft put its efforts towards providing both functionality and enjoyment of use, as they assure that they “needed something that was both durable and beautiful.”

The Redmond company played towards the luxurious aspect of the Signature Type Cover by releasing it in Italy, and it is not a coincidence. The material known as Alcantara is found almost solely in the Italian village of Nera Montoro. Supposedly, the process to fabricate a new Signature Type Cover takes at least five weeks to complete, as the Alcantara material needs to undergo a rigorous dying and extrusion process.

According to most reviewers, the Signature Type Cover is a great addition to the Surface Pro line of products, as it provides a very affordable and pleasant casing for your Tablet PC.
