Today, the SharePoint team announced the web application platform is already available as a mobile app for IOS. They promote it as “intranet in your pocket”. The company is catching up with its competitors in the corporate market such as SAP and Oracle, who released their mobile apps years ago. Considering Microsoft’s latest purchases, Wand Labs, and Linkedin, the move just makes sense, and it was very evident that the North American company wanted to tackle market of medium and large enterprises with new and better options.

The new integration brings a lot of benefits for users that already use Microsoft products as part of their infrastructure. In fact, the developing team said that it was all interconnected. For the final users, this means that the same work they can do from their work computers, they can do it on their phone through the app, and there is no limit on the number of accounts a single person can use in a single device.

If a company uses Office 365 SharePoint, SharePoint Server (2013 and 2016), or hybrid environments, its employees can enjoy the new IOS app (Hybrid means the company has its system on both a physical service, and on the cloud using virtual desktops)

The new app allows people to take the office in their pockets

Everyone knows what the internet is, but there are some people who, even though they have listened to it a couple of times, do not know that the intranet is. Companies that reach a certain point of growth usually start needing more organization. This increase is calculated by the number of employees. Many tools in the market can help a company to create a workflow, or in other words, a series of processes to carry on with the daily activities in a specific order. Every member of the company has a job, and they have to stick to the program to connect with the other person.

SharePoint focus is extensive as includes reports, projects, schedules, e-mails, and anything the user needs. The team behind the software expanded its capabilities and created a complete world similar to the internet. There is a big difference, though. In this world, the admins control everything including who gets to enter, like an own net, hence intranet. Besides this, it is pretty much the same, people can surf the internet, and there are even many social media platforms that can be considered “Facebook for corporations.”

According to the SharePoint team, the app will be divided into four sections. First, the sites tab which is a database for favorite web pages and numerous visited links. Then, there is the Links tab that shows all the portals the company considers necessary for everyone to see.

Thirdly, there is the people tab that works as a list of contacts with all the benefits from Office 365 meaning that it tells if the individual is working, on what is working, if the individual is in a conference, invite them to a meeting, and so on. Finally, there is a search tab which is nothing more than a web browser filtered to look for things of corporate interest.

Microsoft hopes to release a generic version for Android and Microsoft by the end of the year.
