Janice Dickinson diagnosed with breast cancer

TV host and supermodel Janice Dickinson recently announced in an emotional interview with Daily Mail Online that she has been suffering from breast cancer. The model has been battling against it since her diagnosis on March 12 with a positive attitude and the support from her friends and family.

The delicate news came after her doctor found a lump in her right breast during a routine medical examination, which led to an urgent mammogram and biopsy. Later, she was diagnosed with early stage ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a highly treatable and common form of breast cancer, according to National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Current treatment for DCIS is usually non-invasive and do not require any chemotherapy in most of its cases, unless cancer spreads to other parts of the body. Patients constantly undergo a lumpectomy or, in severe cases, a mastectomy, as reported by the Huffington Post.

The world’s self-proclaimed first supermodel has confronted her diagnosis with a positive attitude. Even though she confessed during the interview to be scared at first, Dickinson said the disease is not going to define her.

“It is still quite shocking. Today I got very scared,” she told Daily Mail. “I just get very scared and it hit me. But I am not gonna let that define me, the fear. I am going to get through this, I will be just fine kiddo,” she added.

A televised battle

The former America’s Next Top Model judge is not letting the disease take her away from cameras, actually, her treatment will be televised on the daytime series “The Doctors”, starting April 6.

“The Doctors” will be accompanying her with every treatment to her recently diagnosed disease. The reality TV star has not lost her characteristic sense of humor and personality that made her famous across the world.

Dickinson added that she does not want anyone to feel sorry for her, that her announcement was not a pity party. She gladly said she was Janice Dickinson and that she will be sticking around for a long, long time.
