Google Maps reaches new heights on Mont Blanc

Users can now explore one of the highest peaks in Europe. Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) added Mont Blanc to its places to explore in Street View, thanks to the 360-degree camera and a team of climbers, photographers, skiers, runners and explorers who contributed to the project.

It offers the experience of climbing the mountain without the danger. The user can also choose the activity he or she is more interested in exploring, with the legend on the field to follow, he can just walk or climb as he wishes.

Many angles are shown in the maps, people can experience walking, climbing or skiing with professionals.

“By working with legendary adventurers, the Street View team was able to capture the spirit of the massif in a way few witness firsthand” published Google in its Blog.

One of them was Kilian Jornet, the runner with the record for ascending and descending Mont Blanc in 4 hours 57 minutes. The user can enjoy the experience of high-speed at the peak in the angle he or she prefers.

If the persons is more adventurous could join Ueli Steck, which holds the record-setting alpine climber, and see a one in a lifetime panoramic view.

Laetitia Roux and Patrick Gabarrou showed the walking and skiing experience. Roux is a 14-time ski mountaineering and Gabarrou a famous guide of the mountains, according to the blog.

Many others well known adventurers participated in the experience, but the other side of the exciting new opportunity is that the explorers can also see the damage global warming has done to the piks.

Google pointed out that this opportunity to explore and get to know the peaks could also serve as a “time capsule” so scientist, and even common people, can see how much Mont Blanc has changed. Apparently the glaciers are shrinking fast, and in the maps and videos provided it is clear that the time has passed and it is getting worst every year.

The internet monster released the promo of the new location in a video that shows each possible activity in the peaks, with breathtaking views and sunrises.
