Friends cast reunites to honor James Burrows

Pasadena, California – The six lead actors from perhaps the most famous sitcom of recent years, Friends, will reunite 12 years after the series ended, as all of them have signed up for a special tribute to director James Burrows. NBC president Bob Greenblatt announced the news on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California.

A two-hour special dedicated to the career of veteran comedy director James Burrows will be aired Sunday, February 21st, at 9 p.m. to celebrate his 1,000th TV show direction. Burrows directed fifteen episodes of the iconic sitcom and he had also helmed episodes for a number of other popular series including “Cheers,” “Taxi,” “Mary Tyler Moore,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” “Laverne & Shirley,” “Frasier,” “Will & Grace” and the pilot for “The Big Bang Theory.”

Greenblatt said that the details were still being ironed out for the cast reunion and he even suggested that the six Friends may not appear together.

“I’m hoping all six will be in the same room at the same time. I’m not sure we can logistically pull it off,” he said to the group of reporters.

The producers hope cast members from other shows Burrows directed would also be part of the special. Cast members of different shows including “Taxi,” “Cheers,” “Frasier” and “Will & Grace,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “Mike & Molly” have already confirmed they will appear in the special.

Fans and reporters have been waiting for a “Friends” reunion since the show ended in 2004, however, the stars have said for years that it is probably never going to happen. Cox, Aniston and Kudrow reunited for a Friends sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2014.
