Female suicide bombers killed 58 people in Nigeria

Maiduguri, Nigeria – At least 58 people have died on Wednesday in Nigeria, after two female bombers detonated body-attached bombs in a refugee camp in the northeastern part of Maiduguri, according to local authorities.

Another woman, who apparently knew the bombers, was detained. The latter, offered information to authorities about other bombings, according to an official of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, said the NY Times. As a response, security personnel have already taken extra security measures at the camp.

Moreover, 78 people were wounded as a consequence of the double-detonation. The refugee camp is currently composed of approximately 50,000 people, who had to left their homes because of the Boko Haram Islamic uprising, said health workers in Maiduguri, which is also called Yerwa by its locals, according to The Associated Press.

51 bodies were already buried on Wednesday in Dikwa, where the bombings occurred. Boko Haram, which means “Western education is sinful”, has killed 20,000 people and has left 2.5 million without a home.

The Nigerian government has already sent its condolences to the victims and their families. Laolu Akande, a spokesman for the Nigerian vice president Yemi Osinbajo, said that it was regrettable that terrorists attacked people who have lost their homes as a result of previous attacks.

He also added that the Federal Government’s force will face terrorists in order to protect the life, liberty and property of all Nigerians, said “Channels TV” from Nigeria. “There will be no hiding place for terrorists,” the vice president remarked.

A town located in the Cameroon border was also attacked by terrorists on Wednesday, according to the Nigerian media. The suicide bombing left, at least, six people dead and 30 injured, who were gathered at a funeral.

The attack at the funeral was also carried by two female terrorists, who had bombs attached to their bodies. According to Cameroon officials, the two bombers pretended to be family members and joined the ceremony. It appears that some wounded children are hospitalized.
