Facebook updated Notes to create and share blogs

Facebook has recently updated an old long-ignored feature: Notes. Now, users can write a note and personalize it by adding a cover picture, putting captions and format texts.

“We’re rolling out an update to make notes on Facebook more beautiful and customizable,” wrote Isaac Salier-Hellendag, a User Interface Engineer in the Facebook newsroom. “Notes are now an even better way to write a longer post and share with anyone—whether it’s a small group of friends or everyone on Facebook.”

To attend the demand of 1,49 million users, the biggest social network is always updating its page by adding or updating features to make the experience more unique. For instance, Facebook offers this feature as a diary or blog where users can update their friends about a vacation, an opinion, a recipe, or much more.

“Facebook has always been a place to share your thoughts with friends, and notes are a meaningful way for people to do that. For example, Jeff Nunokawa enjoys creative writing, and every day since 2007, he has written a note inspired by a different quote,” reads the blog spot.

By adding a cover photo, captioning and resizing pictures, and formatting texts into headers, quotes or bullets, Facebook seems to rival Medium, a blogging platform established by Ev Williams, a Twitter co-founder.

Currently, the creation of a note is only restricted to the web version, though notes are viewable in both web and mobile ones. However, Facebook has not announced if this might change.

Making it a hobby

According to his Facebook page, Jeff Nunokawa is a Hawaiian that works as an English professor at Princeton University and studied at Yale University. However, he has a daily different tradition since 2007.

Every morning he writes a note on Facebook inspired by a different quote to share with his students. His audience grew so much that he has reached the limit of friends on Facebook and has now more than 3,000 followers, and 4,600 notes.

He, in fact, published a book this year called “Note book” where he selected 250 of the most powerful and famous notes on Facebook. The result is a new kind of literary work that started through social media.
