At least two dead in murder-suicide at Air Force base in Texas

San Antonio – At least two men have been found dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday morning. Identities have not been confirmed, but several media outlets have reported that was an airman who shot his commanding officer.

The event occurred at a classroom facility known as Forbes Hall, on the Lackland portion of Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland at about 8am. Authorities received a 911 call and later found the two dead bodies and two Glock pistols in the scene, as reported by Air Force Times.

During the next hours, the building was placed on lockdown while officers continued to search for others potential shooters or victims. At 10am officials declared the place safe and lifted the lockdown, according to Lt. Col. Bobby Ford.

It was determined that the incident was not a terrorist-related. Authorities refused to publish the name of the victims over respect for their family members, who according to the officers have the right to know first.

“We are in the process of beginning to conduct our crime-scene investigation with our crime scene investigators, as well as looking for other leads and information as to determining how this incident began,” said Lt. Col. Jeremy Waller, a commander in Air Force OSI.

Unclear motive

As the investigators refused to reveal the victims’ identities, they refused as well to reveal any potential motive of the event. However, an officer who spoke with the Washington Post on the condition of anonymity commented that the incident appears to be a dispute between the recently deceased.

The investigation is being held by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations with the support of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to determine what exactly happened in the facility.

Military-issued and personal firearms are heavily controlled by the force and remains unknown whether the men had the authorization to be carrying any of the two weapons found in the scene.
