Contract renewed: The Howard Stern Show stays on air for 5 more years

It was announced on Tuesday that Howard Stern, anchor of The Howard Stern Show, is going to work with Sirius XM for 5 more years after he and the broadcasting company negotiated a lucrative deal, New York Daily News reported.

The show, that started in 1986 in traditional radio and then migrated to satellite radio, is going to be heard by fans for at least five more years. Also, the star will keep producing and editing the Howard 101 channel, which outstands music related to the self-proclaimed King of All Media interests.

Howard also owns the rights to thirty years of Howard Stern Show video and audio. He declared he has plans to move into the video streaming industry and signed a 12-year deal with the company. Also, he will participate in the development of an app for Sirius.

The talented author stated he is living the dream on satellite radio and affirmed Jim Meyer, the Sirius’s CEO was his life partner. He referred to the new streaming video app as the new baby they were about to have.

“If you are not listening to Sirius XM and The Howard Stern Show, then you are really more like a zombie, a rotting corpse monster, living half a life, deadened and blackened inside. It’s as if you were still watching black and white television while shopping in actual stores on your way to the post office to fax a memo,” Howard said.

According to Bloomberg, earlier in February, Sirius XM obtained their best annual U.S. auto sales since 2006 in the fourth-quarter. Net income rose to $143 million as the company added 575,689 new subscribers to their services.

That being said, the revenue increased 9.1 percent from a year earlier to $1.09 billion, compared with an average estimate of $1.08 billion by the same quarter, Bloomberg reported.

On Tuesday Sirius shares increased 4 percent to $4,17 and resulted as the most traded on the Nasdaq. Reuters stressed almost 44 million shares were traded by 1:38 p.m. ET. According to the news agency analysts, the deal between Sirius and Howard could involve around $500 million.

While Howard announced the new contract renovation he did not specify how much money was involved in the negotiations. However, sources seem to suggest he obtains $100 million per year.

In summer, Forbes remarked Howard Stern as the host that earned the most in the radio industry. The magazine stated the anchor earned $95 million from June 2014 to June 2015.
