Chrissy Metz opens up about abusive stepfather

Before releasing her new book titled “This Is Me,” Chrissy Metz decided to sit down and give People magazine an emotional, yet strong interview, in which she addressed painful moments she lived in her past. Unfortunately, now the public is aware of the heartbreaking situation that involved family members.

Chrissy specifically expressed being scared of the reactions her family members could have when they become aware of the revelations she decided to make on her memoir. She explained that 37 years of her life are portrayed in her new book, and that as some of her experiences were great, some were not.

The book, written by the actress and singer as a painful diary, will be in stores on March 27. She has already warned her family about the issues she addressed in there, hoping they’ll understand.

The rise of a star

Chrissy, born Christine, is known for playing Kate Pearson in the NBC drama This Is Us. She earned Best Supporting Actress nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2017 and Golden Globe Awards in 2017 and 2018. She also played Barbara/Ima Wiggles in American Horror Story: Freak Show, during five episodes.

Chrissy is also the singer of her own band “Chrissy and The Vapors.” They play alternative rock, blues, and hip-hop. Their single “Trouble with The Winners” cataloged as a “bluesy, urban jam slam,” was inspired by Chrissy’s own experiences in the entertainment industry, which jokes about keeping up with the “Joneses mentality.”

Jango, one of the pages that portray the band and its available tunes, stated that Chrissy is a welcome voice in the diverse musical landscape. They also described her as edgy and raw, honest and a real Southern Belle that has something to say.

Chrissy stars as Kate Pearson in NBC’s This Is Us, a triplet who struggles with weight issues. She explained she didn’t want people to think that she wrote about something for any particular reason, other than to show the evolution of the relationship or how that lesson changed her.

The actress declared that she would never “throw anybody under the bus” because that is not who she is. She also claimed she has to remind herself of that since she knows why she wrote those particular stories or decided to tell them.

Remember

The actress talked to PEOPLE magazine about This Is Me. She alleged that Trigger, her stepfather, used to beat her and force her to do humiliating weigh-ins when she was a teenager.

“I don’t remember why Trigger hit me the first time. He never punched my face. Just my body, the thing that offended him so much. He shoved me, slapped me, punched my arm. He would hit me if he thought I looked at him wrong. I remember being on the kitchen floor after he knocked me over, and I was begging to know what I did. He just shoved me hard with his foot,” Chrissy said.

Nevertheless, her stepfather has denied every single allegation that Chrissy has made. He claimed he loves her right now as much as he has always loved her, and that he treated her as if she was his daughter. He added that he also wanted what was best for her. Chrissy’s story seems to be completely different.

“My body seemed to offend him, but he couldn’t help but stare, especially when I was eating. He joked about putting a lock on the refrigerator. We had lived with a lack of food for so long that when it was there, I felt like I had to eat it before it disappeared. Food was my only happiness,” the actress said.

As a result of this, Chrissy explained she eventually begin to hide when she was eating. Sadly, that only made Trigger start a weight-check routine.

He used to sit on a chair next to the scale that Chrissy was weighing on and act surprised, since the numbers on the scale marked between 130 to 140 pounds every single time.

Even though the weigh was not as high as to reach an obesity level, Chrissy’ friends all weighted about 90 pounds, and that made Trigger upset. Chrissy now looks at her old photographs and explains that her size would be perfectly fine nowadays. Back then, she thought she was ‘gigantic.’

‘I loved him, anyways’

Despite all of Trigger’s actions, Chrissy, in a sad statement claimed that she also loved him, and all she ever wanted to hear him say was how proud he was of her, and that he loved her.

Alongside telling these stories about her childhood and teen-years, Crissy also wrote about her first boyfriend, who, according to the singer, refused to acknowledge her in public because of her weight. She also addressed the fat-shaming she experienced throughout her entire career in Hollywood.

Chrissy only hopes that people will read her book from the first page to the last one, and understand what she is trying to say – since, according to her, it is not a way to point people out of resentment, rather than a healing process for her own sake.
