Breatharian couple hasn’t felt hungry in over eight years thanks to ‘cosmic nourishment’

A “breatharian” couple claims they haven’t been hungry in over eight years. Akahi Ricardo, 36, and Camila Castillo, 34, are breatharians, meaning they practice a diet in which they consume only the “universe’s energy.”

The couple only eats three times a week, and when they eat, it’s only a piece of fruit or a vegetable broth. Ricardo and Castillo, who live between California and Ecuador, said they have forgotten what it feels like to be hungry.

They have a 5-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son, and Castillo claims she only ate five times when she was pregnant with her first child.

Breatharian wife says she only ate five times during her entire pregnancy

Studies have shown that fasting over intermittent periods of time can be beneficial, but the breatharian lifestyle in something astounding to science. Ricardo and his wife claim that energy is enough to survive and that they are sustained by cosmic nourishment.

“Humans can be easily without food, as long as they are connected to the energy that exists in all things and through breathing,” said Castillo, according to The Independent.

The couple even said that they didn’t eat anything at all for three years. Castillo said that they spent all that time without ingesting any food; and that now they occasionally eat if they are in a social situation or if they simply want to taste a fruit.

“With my first child, I practiced a Breatharian pregnancy. Hunger was a foreign sensation to me so I fully lived on light and ate nothing,” said Castillo, according to The Independent. “My blood tests during all three trimesters were impeccable and I gave birth to a healthy, baby boy.”

Castillo said that she was willing to change her breatharian lifestyle when she became pregnant, but she just never felt hungry. She claims she never felt the need or desire to eat solid food during the nine months, so she only ate five times throughout her pregnancy, all of which were on social occasions. The breatharian mother explains that she knew her son would be nourished enough by her love and that would allow him to grow healthily in her womb. She noted that she attended at regular pregnancy check-ups and her doctor confirmed the above average growth of a very healthy baby boy.

‘Breatharianism is about cosmic nourishment and living without limits’

Although the couple practices the breatharian lifestyle, they don’t impose it on their children. Ricardo noted that their children are aware of breatharianism and the energy that exists in the universe as well as in them, but that they would never try to change them and they can eat whatever they want, whether that is vegetables, juices, pizza or ice-cream.

He stressed that they want their kids to explore the different tastes and have a healthy relationship with food as they grow. Ricardo believes it would be unfair to impose their lifestyle upon their children, but he added that maybe when they grow, they will get “deeper” into the practices.

Ricardo and Castillo met in 2005 and discovered Breatharianism in 2009. The duo transitioned from vegetarians to raw vegans, to fruitarians and finally to breatharians. Another plus side of their lifestyle, according to the couple, is that by not eating they have more money for traveling.

Ricardo noted that their living costs are a lot less than most families, which has allowed them to spend their money on things that really matter like traveling and exploring together. He said that it had given them a clear sense of what they want in life.

“Anyone can live a Breatharian lifestyle and feel the benefits. It’s not about never eating food again, it’s about understanding cosmic nourishment (not just physical nourishment) and living without limits,” explained Ricardo, according to The Independent.

Michelle Pfeiffer says Breatharianism is a ‘cult’

In 1901, famous inventor Nikola Tesla spoke in favor of a breatharian lifestyle in his book “Talking with Planets.” He wrote that the development of life must lead to forms of existence that will be possible without nourishment and which would not be affected by consequent limitations. Tesla stressed the point and asked why a living being should not be able to obtain the energy it needs from the environment, instead of through consumption of food.

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer also practiced Breatharianism, as she told USA Today once. She explained she joined the “cult” –as she calls it- when she moved to Hollywood at 20 years old. However, she believes they were controlling her, and although she wasn’t living with them, they pressured her into spending more time with the other breatharians. She noted that she also had to pay for all the time she was there, so it was “financially draining.”

Pfeiffer recalls that she and her then husband, Peter Horton, were talking to an ex-Moonie (a cult) and as he was describing the psychological manipulation he sustained during his time in the cult, she said she just clicked and realized she was in a cult too.
