Amber Alert issued for 5-year-old missing boy in Port Huron

An Amber Alert has been issued by Port Huron Police Department for a missing 5-year-old boy. The boy has been identified as Douglas Ball and was last seen with his father in the 1200 block of Rawlins Street, in Port Huron.

Port Huron’s officers are searching for a missing boy and his father after discovering a dead woman in their residence. As per Port Huron Public Safety Director, Michael Reaves, authorities went to the home on Saturday evening to respond to the missing person report issued by the woman’s relatives. Inside the house, it was found out the dead body of a 30-year-old woman who seems to be the 5-year-old boy’s mother. Further details were not provided and the death is being investigated as a homicide.

Police are searching for the 5-year-old boy who has been identified as Douglas Edwin Ball III. Neighbors’’ testimonies indicate the child might be with his father, Douglas Edwin Ball Jr., 39, who is now considered as a person of interest in the woman’s murder.

Amber Alert for 5-year-old boy

According to neighbors’ reports, the suspect was spotted getting into a car and taking the boy with him at about noon on Saturday.

The 5-year-old child was described as white, with blond hair, 4 foot 5 inches tall, blue eyes and weighing about 100 pounds. The boy was allegedly wearing a Superman shirt the last time he was seen by witnesses.

The 39-year-old suspect was described as 6 feet 4 inches tall, with blond hair and blue eyes and weighing 240 pounds. Officers added that Ball got tattooed a pit bull on his left calf, the word ‘gorilla’ on his left forearm and the word ‘kennel’ on his right forearm.

Police officials declared that the suspects might be travelling in a maroon or brown 2000 Chevrolet Malibu with Michigan license plate DFC 9403.

According to Port Huron Police Department declarations, the 39-yearl-old suspect has an outstanding warrant for a traffic violation in Oakland County and it is quite possible that he is headed out of state. In addition, it was revealed that Ball was recently discharged from parole and faces a prior conviction of armed robbery.

The Amber Alert, also known as Child Abduction Emergency, is a child abduction alert system created in the US in 1996. The acronym stands for America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, but was originally created after Amber Hagerman (a 9-year-old child kidnapped and murdered in Texas in 1996.

The Amber Alert is issued via radio stations, television, internet, and wireless text messages. In order to declare an Amber Alert, officers in charge of the investigation reveal the name and description of the victim, a description of the suspected kidnapper and a description of the abductor’s vehicle, if applicable.
