Nintendo Co. Ltd. (NTDOY) announced on Twitter that Pokkén Tournament is coming to Wii U on March 18th to North America, Japan and Europe. The gaming community, which has expected the game for several months, will enjoy a new experience of Pokémon characters involved in the popular genre of fighting.

The development of the game was conducted by Bandai Namco, a Japanese studio that has been in charge of successful creations such as Pac-Mac, Tekken 3, and Soulcalibur. However, Pokkén Tournament is going to be published by Nintendo alongside the multimillionaire Pokémon Company.

Fights will be carried out by more than 16 powerful Pokémon characters such as Pikachu, Charizard, Magikarp, Croagunk, Pachirisu, Sylveon and the mysterious mega Pokémon Chandelure, that was introduced days ago by Nintendo.

The trailer of the 3D game has already more than three million views in Youtube, where thousands of fans from the popular Japanese franchise have written comments of excitement. The YouTuber Tyson Edwards wrote “Well, looks like I’m getting a Wii U.” Another user called MettheSlayer said “This actually looks very cool. Finally, a Pokémon-game in which the characters hit each other for real and not just stand there staring each other down.”

Nintendo will also sell a new special Wii U controller which was exclusively designed to play Pokkén Tournament. The controller, that was already published by Amazon, will be in stores on March 18, for $24,99. With this gadget, users will be allowed to play the game with classic buttons, just like old times.

The Pokémon franchise games are one of the biggest success of Nintendo Company, since it has permitted the Japanese brand differentiate itself from other console makers. In total, there have been more than 260 million sales of Pokémon games in the world. By 2014, its latest game had sold more than 13.29 million units.

In July 2015, Nintendo said the company had sold 10 million units of the Nintendo Wii U, since it was launched in 2013. It was calculated that 9 million units were going to be sold just in 2013, that being said, the number of sales did not impress analysts and investors.

Developers have been trying to create exclusive games for the Wii U in order to increase the sales of the console and engage new possible customers, who have not bought a latest-generation video game console yet. It is expected that Pokkén Tournament will be a success since Pokémon products are among the most wanted by the market of video games.

On Friday, it was announced that Nintendo is going to present a new product called Nintendo NX. Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games Inc translated a statement from the Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima, where it was explained that Nintendo is planning to surprise its fans with new ideas such as the creation of theme parks, movies, TV animes, and apps for smartphones.

“As far as NX goes, I’ve said it’s different and obviously a new experience. That being said, I can assure you we’re not building the next version of Wii or Wii U. It’s something unique and different. It’s something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal to our consumer base,” said Kimishima to Matt Peckham, a video games critic at Time.
