Notorious actress Scarlett Johansson has taken her cover story for Cosmopolitan’s May edition as an opportunity to address female equality as well as the importance of Planned Parenthood programs. Even though Johansson claimed that talking about equal pay would be in a general setting, as the actress from Marvel movie franchises gets paid handsomely.

During her interview for Cosmopolitan Magazine, Johansson said the conversation should apply to a greater whole than just her own experience. A great number of women in the United States are currently being underpaid in comparison to their male peers, and Johansson wanted to get that out in the open.

Scarlett Johansson, 31, said she was very fortunate to make a good living, and as the actress’ career appears to be on the rise, she’s most definitely making the same, if not more than her male peers. This is not the first time for an actress to express their disagreement towards unequal pay between men and women, as Jennifer Lawrence and Patricia Arquette have also made their opinions known.

Johansson, famous for portraying Black Widow in the Avengers franchise, said talking about her own experience feels a little obnoxious, yet it’s a part of a larger conversation about feminism in general. Johansson has had a profitable career thanks to her gorgeous look as well as her acting skills, connecting with the viewer at an emotional level if she wants to. She has acted since very young and was able to make a living out of it, getting a little easier for her, as Johansson gained popularity for her acting roles and thus, started gaining more money.

Scarlett against defunding Planned Parenthood

Yet she claims this is not the case for most women in the U.S., as many of them are currently underpaid, or work for a minor salary than their male counterparts. Johansson also addressed the defunding for Planned Parenthood recently announced by social health organizations.

“There are countries at war, there’s terrorism, global warming, and we’re like, ‘We should definitely cut the budget for Planned Parenthood’,” said Scarlett Johansson during her interview with Cosmopolitan.

She then added that taking away the availability of women’s health it’s foolish. Johansson condemns the equality for women for going backward instead of moving forward, mostly in the current situation of the United States. The actress claims she and her friends used Planned Parenthood growing up, and there’s no shame in that. She wouldn’t just use the birth control services provided by PP, but also for Pap smears and breast exams. This presents a major setback for American social programs intended to help the community, as the state is defunding Planned Parenthood for no apparent reason.
