What you should know if you haven’t watched Orange is the New Black

Orange is the New Black is the story of a woman, Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), in her 30s. Chapman has been sentenced to 15 months in Litchfield Penitentiary, a minimum-security women’s federal prison (operated by the “Federal Department of Corrections,” a fictionalized version of the Federal Bureau of Prisons) in upstate New York.

While living a law-abiding life among New York’s upper middle class, Piper has been convicted of transporting a suitcase full of drug money ten years ago for her then-girlfriend, Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), an international drug smuggler. Her life suddenly changes with this stunning indictment which disrupts her relationships with her fiancé, family, and friends.

Alex, who named Piper in her trial, is in prison and reunites with Piper. Piper and Alex re-evaluated their relationship in Litchfield while they deal with other prisoners. Flashbacks are an important part of the show since they show significant events from various inmates and correctional officers’ pasts. These flashbacks give the audience an explanation of how the prisoner came to be in prison or their lives before prison.

Orange is the New Black’s inmates will experience some changes in their prison of Litchfield just right away it become privatized. New, inexperienced guards, and more prisoners will be one of the main issues in Orange is the New Black fictional prison.

“We start with political agendas, the corporatization of the jail, the stratification of people into their little mosaic groups,” said show runner Jenji Kohan at the 2016 Winter TCA Press Tour.

With new characters, Season4 will have a lot of stories to tell, as well as new romances, relationships and rivalries coming up this year. Since Litchfield got under new management, this season comes with new policies in the prison, and of course with more drama than comedy. Jessica Pimentel (Maria Ruiz) is ready for a brighter spotlight.

This character will be essential to a lot of what is going on, and regarding Piper, she might remain as a minor irritant character comparing to all the problems, drama, and bad events coming up in this new season.
Good news to inmate Litchfield’s fans! Season 4 is not the last one as the show has been renewed for three more seasons with Kohan on board.

“Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. In some cultures, ‘May you lead an interesting life,’ is a curse, but I don’t live in those cultures,” said Kohan in a statement. “Here’s to keeping it interesting. Thanks, Netflix! Both thanks and you’re welcome Lions Gate! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers… with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show. Three more years! Three more years!”
