Leonardo DiCaprio said in an interview with WIRED, that will due in the January issue, that he has survived 3 different near-death experiences –which includes a shark attack, a skydiving accident, and a near plane crash.

The actor may have a lot in common with his character in the Epic The Revenant. They both had a few encounters with death. In the movie the frontiersman he plays encounters a bear attack but DiCaprio says he had encountered real near-death experiences.

“My friends have named me the person they least want to do extreme adventures with, because I always seem to be very close to being part of a disaster, If a cat has nine lives, I think I’ve used a few.” The actor said in an interview with WIRED.

Among the three near-dead experiences the actor describes in the interview included a shark attack.  “A great white jumped into my cage when I was diving in South Africa,” he told Wired. According to the actor half of the shark’s body was in the cage. The actor managed to survive by of felling down to the bottom of the cage and lied flat. The guides said that had never happened in the 30 years they’d been doing it. The actor has the whole experience in video to never forget it happened.

The second one came in a Delta Airlines plane. The actor was in a flight to Russia when an engine blew up in front of his eyes. “I was the only one looking out at the moment this giant turbine exploded like a comet. It was crazy” The actor said all the engines were shut off for a couple of minutes and nobody in the plane was saying anything. Then, they started the engines back up, and they did an emergency landing at JFK.

His third and last near-dead experience, at least so far was in a skydiving incident. It was during a tandem dive. The actor explained they had pulled the first chute but it was knotted up so the gentleman he was decided to cut it free. After 5 or 10 seconds of more free fall for the man pulled the second chute but that was knotted up too.

“He just kept shaking it and shaking it in midair, as all my friends were, you know, what felt like half a mile above me, and I’m plummeting toward earth. And he finally unravels it in midair.” The actor said he thought they were plummeting to death.

In the shooting of what Leonardo DiCaprio categorizes as his most difficult film role yet, the actor had to go through the grueling shooting conditions and his actual suffering on set. In an effort to maintain the authenticity, DiCaprio revealed he had eaten real bison liver. The harsh conditions included a seven-month shoot in Alberta Canada during a time when temperatures reached 40 below zero and long hours in the makeup chair for the application of 47 different prosthetics made to look like bloody wounds.
