Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest wellness book “Goop Clean Beauty” takes note from Shiva Rose, who recommends putting a jade egg inside the vagina to achieve an improved sex life.

According to the publication, regular use of the vaginal jade egg increases orgasms, vaginal muscle tone, hormonal balance, chi, and feminine energy. Supposedly, the eggs were the secret of Chinese concubines, as they walked with the eggs inside their vaginas.

The idea is that the egg would serve as a healing crystal joined with a kegel weight, but in reality, gynecologists are very concerned about this new and apparently irresponsible trend.

What’s concerning is that the egg is not completely smooth. It is a porous element that has no guarantee of being sterile. Each pore is able to harbor bacteria, thus easily causing an infection if the rock would be inserted in the vagina.

A dangerous trend posing as alternative health

The vaginal jade eggs have already sold out on Goop, showing that their irresponsible advice was successful as a marketing strategy.

To achieve what the egg says to achieve, the best solution is to tighten and relax the vaginal muscles, a process known as kegel exercises. Having a relatively heavy egg in there would achieve the exact opposite, potentially damaging the internal vaginal structure.

“The jade creates kidney strength—it’s known as jing in Chinese energy, and it’s all about sexual potency, and even beauty—if your hormones are balanced, your skin will look better. It’s a holistic combination of things, where one benefit builds to another. Jade also takes away negativity and cleanses—it’s a very heavy material, very powerful,” assured guru Shiva Rose to Goop.

On the other hand, Goop Clean Beauty is filled with advice to allow readers become healthier people. The book recommends to first go on a detox regime by eating the right foods. It suggests that one should remove alcohol, beef, pork, dairy, added sugar, and even some types of vegetables to achieve a full detox diet.

Paltrow stated in an interview with W Magazine that she tested the detox recipes for the book and set herself on a 7-week detox regime, which she argues was “super long and super intense.” The actress assures that after finishing her diet, she was feeling completely different. After the holidays passed, Paltrow had eaten fried foods, bread, and cheese, which made her feel completely different.

She explained that doing a big detox once a year is wonderful for her state of mind, allowing her to be clear-headed and energized. According to her, the first week is the hardest because one can start to feel the “toxic load” and the body releasing all the toxins and being be eliminated. She assures that one can go free on holiday season seeing that people are supposed to have complete autonomy over their health and about how they want to feel.

“Look, am I going through Christmas and New Years without drinking alcohol? No, I’m not. I want to eat almond toffee and pumpkin pie and stuffing for god’s sake and whatever else. I’m going to make that choice and then I’ll back off it again when I don’t feel well,” she stated
