This week, Disney made the official announcement of the Star Wars Land. The park has been under construction, and it will probably open its doors in 2019. Disney also revealed that the it will be named “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.”
These announcements were made during this weekend’s Disney D23 Expo, which was dedicated to the Disney’s parks. It was also confirmed that there would be a brand new resort hotel for the Star Wars park that would also be inspired by the movies. Disney wants customers to live a unique Star Wars experience in every single aspect. Maybe that is why the construction of the park has taken longer than expected.
“At The Walt Disney Studios, we could not do what we do without the support of the many Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars fans around the world,” said Alan Horn, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “We feel like our fans are a part of the family, and the D23 Expo is our chance to give a little something extra back to them.”
The name of the Star Wars Land suggests a lot
Everyone at the conference was waiting for the announcement of the name for what was known as the Star Wars Land until this weekend. Galaxy Edges allows fans to have an idea of where in the Star Wars universe the land exists. Just like the name suggests it, the planet that is being represented is on the edge of the known space. To be precise, it’s the place where the Resistance and the First Order have a strong presence, so there they clash frequently. However, the specific details of the park are not known, nobody is sure about how they are going to reflect this galactic adventure.
The land will be open at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, hopefully in 2019. However, it was announced that the doors would be opening first in Disneyland and then it will be followed by Disney World, though no specific time was provided.
As well, the new resort for the part will be Star Wars-themed. Disney describes it as a 100% immersive resort where guests are going to use the classic clothing of Star Wars.
“From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story,” Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said in the announcement. “You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire.”
Disney has more to announce than just the Star Wars Land
Disney also announced that it would open another hotel. This time it will be Disney Hotel New York that will open the doors at Disneyland Paris, and it will feature the art of Marvel. They will open a new sit down restaurant next to Mission: SPACE. They say it would give people the feeling of eating in outer space.
Disney also highlighted there are many changes for EPCOT at Walt Disney World. A new ride will be opened, and it will be inspired in the Guardians of the Galaxy. There already is a ride inspired by this movie at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim, which is called “Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout.” Nevertheless, Disney is planning something entirely different for the EPCOT’s new ride. Pixar’s Ratatouille will also have a new attraction, and it will be added to the park’s France pavilion.
There are rumors about the Tomorrowland Speedway at the Shanghai Disneyland being replaced with a Tron light cycle coaster. However, there was no mention of it this weekend, what would lead to think that, at least right now, the Tomorrowland Speedway won’t lose its place. Maybe this will occur for the Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
Disney has other surprises for Pixar Lovers. A new Toy Story Land will open in summer 2018, which is still under construction. Additionally, the California Adventure’s Paradise Pier will be re-launched as the Pixar Pier, and along with it, new experiences as firework celebrations will come. As well, people should expect the return of the Pixar Play Parade.
For Marvel fans, there are fantastic news too. Disney said that they are planning new superhero experiences involving Spider-Man and the Avengers.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse have never had a themed ride
Moreover, at the Disney’s conference, there was a big announcement with no precedent, though it can be very surprising. Apparently, Disney is going to create a ride inspired by its more iconic and famous characters: Minnie and Mickey Mouse. Hard as it is to believe, Mickey has never had its own attraction. It will be at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios, replacing the Great Movie Ride with Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. It will have 3D elements, though no glasses will be required. Therefore it is something like a 2.5 D experience.
It doesn’t matter if people are big fans of Marvel, Pixar, Lucas Films or Classic Disney animations; there are new adventures and plans for every single person who loves the Disney’s parks.
