A total of 15 different items coming from CRF Frozen Foods (including brands Organic by Nature, True Goodness, Wellsley Farms and Schwan’s) had to be called back for the potential of being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

 Although food that contains the Listeria monocytogenes may not seem harmful, it is able to cause nausea, fever, headache and vomiting. There have been no cases of infection reported to date, but the products are being recalled as soon as possible.

The headquarters of CRF Frozen Foods, located in Washington, have issued a recall order to remove the infected items from food shelves around the U.S. and Canada. Listeria monocytogenes is specially harmful on children, pregnant women and the elderly, all of who have weaker immune systems. The first sample of the organism was found while performing routine tests in Ohio on a lot of Individually Quick Frozen organic petite green peas and one lot of Individually Quick Frozen sweet cut corn.

Most of the items were being sold at Costco, including the stores on Canada. Although there is a recall order on the U.S., there has not been any type of action regarding the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The infected products were distributed in the dates between September 13th and March 16th.

If you or someone you know tends to buy CRF Frozen Foods organic items, make sure to check the name, brand, size of package, UPC code and expiration date so the item can be returned to the store and subsequently, avoid becoming ill by consuming an infected product.
