“This demands more than just a traditional press conference or marketing or trailer releases,” says Erick Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing regarding the Call of Duty XP event. “This really feels like a franchise celebration and a fan celebration”

The Call of Duty franchise continues to succeed

Call of Duty is a first-person shooter video game. It was first released in 2003, transporting players to the primary World War II battles. In 2007, “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” was released and it was the first game in the franchise to be set in modern time’s battlefields, shifting the focus away from World War II. Call of Duty has been the top selling PC and Console video game in the US for six years in a row. It is estimated that 25% of the revenues perceived by Activision, the company that owns the franchise, come from the sales of the Call of Duty video games. In February this year, the sales of the franchise reached 250 million dollars mainly coming from the Black Ops versions.

“Year in and year out, the franchise continues to put out a solid game,” says Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson.

What does the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare offer?

Activision has turned Call of Duty into much more that game, it has become a habit among players. Now it is trying to make them continue this habit with “Infinite Warfare.” This weekend will show fans what are the details of the soon-to-be-released game in a multiplayer mode, allowing the participants to play a variety of competitive military battles with other humans as opponents.

The game features unique “combat rings”, which are cutting-edge combat suits that are tailored according to the player’s fighting strategy. They can use the “Merc” suit if they have a defensive tactic or “Phantom” for the ones who prefer going with covert techniques.

It also introduces a crafting system, enabling users to build a better version of their weaponry. Now, weapons have four levels of rarity; therefore, the typical EBR sniper rifle might have Stockpile for more ammo. Players will be able to create secondary guns. The game also includes outrageous gear like “black hole grenades”, which can create tiny black holes.

“Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare” will feature new surroundings, including battles on space stations. The head of Call of Duty studio, Dave Stohl said they had given themselves a lot of creative freedom to set the places for the battles and even in the equipment that players will use in the game, but always keeping in mind the “Call of Duty” that fans love and know.
