The nominees for the 88th Academy Awards, best-known as Oscars, were announced on Thursday. Jennifer Lawrence, the artist that became famous with the Hunger Games saga was nominated again, but this time for actress in a leading role, which is the best award of the night for female interpreters. Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael Fassbender, The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens are also among the nominated.

The film that received more nominations was The Revenant, a biographical western movie directed by Alejandro Iñarritu, the Mexican director that won the best director award last year with the ingenious piece Birdman. This year, Iñarritu will have the opportunity of receiving the same award again, since The Revenant was nominated for best picture, best director and other 10 categories.

“There was no easy day on this film. It was an eight-month enterprise in remote, cold, uncomfortable, difficult landscapes. The entire film felt like a bear attack. Every day that fucking bear found me and was chewing me. That bear likes Mexican flesh. But I think Leonardo couldn’t be more proud or more happy. We couldn’t have gotten along better. He’s insanely good in it, and without the collaboration, the way that he approached this as a partner, it could have been impossible,” said Alejandro Iñarritu to the Wall Street Journal.

The movie that follows The Revenant when counting the nominations is Mad Max: Fury Road, with 10 categories, including best picture, best director, best cinematography and best visual effects. Last year, the film directed by George Miller was recognized as the best movie of the year by 493 members of the International Federation of Film Critics.

When talking about the best picture nominees, The Academy nominated 8 films, even when they could choose up to 10. Spotlight, The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant and Room are going to compete for the biggest award.

Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated this year for actor in a leading role. The artist has received five Oscar nominations in his career, however, he has never won an award. Critics seem to suggest that this year he has finally some bigger opportunities of being recognized for his pristine performance at The Revenant, a film that was shot under freezing temperatures with natural lights.

Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Matt Damon for The Martian, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs and Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl are also among the nominated for the actor in a leading role award. The same award was received last year by Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything.

On the other hand, Cate Blanchett, Carol, Brie Larson, Room, Jennifer Lawrence, Joy, Charlotte Rampling, 45 Years, Saoirse Ronan, Brooklyn were nominated for actress in a leading role. Last year, the award was presented to Julianne Moore for Still Alice.
